Dry caramel nose, with delicately floral (a bit of lilac) taste with touch of brown sugar, semi-dry with a light sparkle.

Small champagne producer

Wine: Domaine de Picquard Champagne (1998) - Domaine de Picquard

A little chocolatey at first, it resolves into blackberry and lime, with a faintly metallic aftertaste. Medium-light, but not full-bodied.

Delicate consistency

Wine: Les Auvrays Sancerre (2006) - Jean-Claude Bougrier - Sauvignon Blanc

Delicate mineral scent. Mineral and tart apple taste, with a hint of honey and consistent aftertaste. It worked reasonably well with a Thai mushroom salad.

Honey-lemon wine

Wine: Jean Geiler Riesling Grand Cru Sommerberg (2005) - Riesling

Reviewed: 29-Sep-2007

  • Wine Rating: 45%
  • Dryness: 7 - Medium Sweet

Very light honeyed-marzipan scent, with lightweight lemony-camomile taste. Bad first impressions thanks to unsuccessful food pairing which made the wine taste almost entirely of alcoholic tang.

Intriguing wine

Wine: The Maverick (2006) - Bellingham - Chenin Blanc

Reviewed: 08-Sep-2007

  • Wine Rating: 70%
  • Dryness: 2 - Dry

Dry, mineral scent. Intriguing, low-key spiciness to wine, a rather dry minerality with light fruity notes - apples, grapefruit - which mature before the minerality dominates again.

Elegant dinner wine

Wine: Menetou-Salon Morogue (2005) - Domaine Henri Pellé - Sauvignon Blanc

Reviewed: 28-Aug-2007

  • Wine Rating: 70%
  • Dryness: 3 - Medium Dry

A strong mineral scent. The taste is an equal match of mineral and fruit, with a strong initial minerality at first, followed by a linger of apricots and avocados. A medium-dry wine. A long, fairly dry finish. A sommelier recommended this with the difficult combination of gnocchi and beef, and it worked remarkably well with both.

Pleasant light wine

Wine: Die Gute Erde (2007) - Jakob Gerhardt - Bacchus

Reviewed: 18-Aug-2007

  • Wine Rating: 75%
  • Dryness: 5 - Semi-Dry

Its mild sweet honey scent rewards with coordinated initial light grape flavors with a touch of floral, which resolve into a more decisive mild mineral long linger. Nicely balanced between sweet and dry.

A versatile and unassuming table wine, fairly smooth, faintly mineral nose, on the dry side. Low-key pear and apple notes. I drank it with a robust meal, so it faded into the background after the first sip or two.

Lovely, light sweet wine

Wine: Juventi (2006) - Kreuznacher Gutental - Riesling

Reviewed: 05-Aug-2007

Light, sweet scent, with body that's a good balance between rich and light. Taste is of pears and cherries with underlying floral notes, almost like lilacs.

Fun wine

A gently sweet, lightly sparkling wine. Delicate smell of sugar water. Initial sparkle fades to smoothness, rich grape juice, with touch of grapefruit, vanilla, and caramel notes.
