Smell of minerals, lemons, pears, dryness.
Initial sharpness smooths in a rush of bubbles to a touch of apple, lemon, raisins, and peach. Smooth, dry finish.

Review of Joseph Loriot-Paget Champagne

Wine: Joseph Loriot-Paget Champagne (2002) - Joseph Loriot-Paget

Reviewed: 12-Apr-2008

  • Wine Rating: 65%
  • Dryness: 3 - Medium Dry

Faint, dry, touch of caramelized sugar, watermelon, and appley to nose. Assertive green apple dryness smooths out into notes of apricots and oranges with a touch of currants in the finish. Dry at its heart with candied elements.

Review of Cavit Collection Pinot Grigio

Wine: Cavit Collection Pinot Grigio (2005) - Cavit Collection

Reviewed: 26-Jan-2008

  • Wine Rating: 38%
  • Dryness: 2 - Dry

Blunt lemony scent with faintly heavy overlay of honey. Quite dry, tastes of alcohol although it's only 12%, but with flavorfulness around the edges. Not particularly bad, but not particularly good either. Balanced between fruity and floral, grapey, touch of apricot, with a dose of lilac.

Review of Joseph Loriot-Paget Champagne

Wine: Joseph Loriot-Paget Champagne (2000) - Joseph Loriot-Paget

Reviewed: 22-Jan-2008

  • Wine Rating: 65%
  • Dryness: 4 - Light Dry

Light honey-elderflower scent. Immediate sharpness which smooths out into faintly sweet dryness. (Although actually described as one of the sweetest champagnes sold at the place I bought it.) Taste is of Granny Smith apples and pear, with hints of citrus and peach

Lovely light champagne

Dry caramel nose, with delicately floral (a bit of lilac) taste with touch of brown sugar, semi-dry with a light sparkle.

Small champagne producer

Wine: Domaine de Picquard Champagne (1998) - Domaine de Picquard

Reviewed: 26-Oct-2007

  • Wine Rating: 58%

A little chocolatey at first, it resolves into blackberry and lime, with a faintly metallic aftertaste. Medium-light, but not full-bodied.

Delicate consistency

Wine: Les Auvrays Sancerre (2006) - Jean-Claude Bougrier - Sauvignon Blanc

Reviewed: 03-Oct-2007

  • Wine Rating: 57%
  • Dryness: 5 - Semi-Dry

Delicate mineral scent. Mineral and tart apple taste, with a hint of honey and consistent aftertaste.

It worked reasonably well with a Thai mushroom salad.

Honey-lemon wine

Wine: Jean Geiler Riesling Grand Cru Sommerberg (2005) - Riesling

Reviewed: 29-Sep-2007

  • Wine Rating: 45%
  • Dryness: 7 - Medium Sweet

Very light honeyed-marzipan scent, with lightweight lemony-camomile taste.

Bad first impressions thanks to unsuccessful food pairing which made the wine taste almost entirely of alcoholic tang.

Intriguing wine

Wine: The Maverick (2006) - Bellingham - Chenin Blanc

Reviewed: 08-Sep-2007

  • Wine Rating: 70%
  • Dryness: 2 - Dry

Dry, mineral scent. Intriguing, low-key spiciness to wine, a rather dry minerality with light fruity notes - apples, grapefruit - which mature before the minerality dominates again.
