Usability Tweaks

The first updates to Splash of Wine for the new year are some usability tweaks. The purchase region is now optional when recording a wine purchase, and reviews now get a default title.

I've made some changes to the Facebook application that should make it a little easier to use. All external links (for example registration, adding wines to lists, etc) now open in a new browser window. I don't normally like this style of link - but it works better within the Facebook profile.

Minor Tweaks

I've made a few minor changes to how vintages work, and how wines can be created. It's now possible to enter the vintage for a wine review or purchase as NV (for non-vintage) or Unknown. The new wine form now has the producer and grape as optional fields as they aren't always available for every wine.

Small fix for Facebook application

The Splash of Wine Facebook application now works correctly in the "wide" column of your profile. Existing users will need to select "Update Lists" on their profile page to refresh the profile box.

I've just uploaded and activated the latest update to Splash of Wine. New features:

Wine Lists are now integration with Facebook
Average wine prices across multiple countries are now displayed on the wine page (where available)
Auto suggestion of wineries on the add wine page
First name and last name are now optional

A note: I've seen that Gmail (and possibly other mail apps) are flagging the registration confirmation messages as spam. There's not much I can do about this - please check your spam folder if you register and this doesn't come through. I've done a bulk confirm for those users that hadn't yet got their confirm mail.

New Features

Today I've upgraded the site with new features and improvements. The highlights are:

Wine Lists - Create wish lists, recommendation lists, shopping lists and more. Lists can either be published for others to see or kept private.
All Tags page - Find wines directly from the all tags page.
Value For Money and Dryness are now optional fields on reviews.
There's now a link directly on the tool bar for finding a wine (Review a Wine) for review.

Thank you to those who have given feedback, I've tried to incorporate as many fixes / changes as possible.

Please do let me know if there are more changes I should make!

I've made a few fixes to the site today, starting with getting the search working again and making the "Most Popular" wines list work correctly. I've also improved how the list of purchases are displayed, with quick links to the review page for purchases of wine vintages that have not been reviewed yet.

Alpha Launch

Splash of Wine is a new home on the web for information about wine. It's a brand new site, so although everything should (hopefully!) work, I need lots of feedback on how it can be improved.

The main feature right now is the ability to review wines, so you can build up a list of which wines you like. Reviews can also be shared with other users (by selecting "publish" on the edit page), and you can follow other users' reviews using syndication (Atom) feeds.

Other features include: record purchases, export your reviews to CSV files, embed reviews in your blog and search for recommended wines. Additional features are in the works and suggestions are welcome!
